Location:  Traveling from Chiang Mai to Chiang Dao, on the Chiang Mai - Fang Highway, Mon and Kurt's Restaurant and Guesthouse is located 2.5km past the Chiang Dao 7/11, on your right hand side, heading towards Fang.

Coming the other way from Fang, take the old highway (not the bypass) into Chiang Dao and you will see the black/red/gold signs on your left.

If you are coming by bus or Songtheaw, just ask the driver to drop you off, when you see our sign.  Most drivers know where we are.

Here is what some of our guests had to say about Mon and Kurt's Restaurant and Guesthouse:

Dear Mon and Kurt,

Thank you soooo much for the super stay!  You are the most friendly people and took really good care of my friend and me.  I had a real great time and super experience here in Chiang Dao!

Here are some other options for Chiang Dao:

Nature Home Guesthouse:  A very nice and friendly older couple runs this place.  Three nice freestanding, big cabins with hot showers and private bathroom for 450 baht double plus 100 Baht for extra person or one big cabin with three double beds for 600 Baht per night.  It also has private bathroom with hot shower.  Nice homey athmosphere.  Owners don't speak English, but will call their daughter on the phone to translate.  Phone (English language speaking):  089-955-9074, Thai language:  087-173-8406 or 053-455-771.  Adress:  233 Moo 12 Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province

Suan Dao Duan, a lady named Daeng owns it: 081-7463237

 Rainbow Resort: 04-803-8116

 Yangtone Farmstay: Yangtonefarmstay.com 01-952-7728

A Dutch Man named Cees, who has clean and new bungalows with hot water showers and bathroom for 250 - 300 Baht: 08-97580450

Chiang Dao Nest 1 and 2, near the mountain temple.  Bamboo cabins with bathroom and hot showers start at 695 Baht per night (quiet athmosphere)

Malee has nice cabins next door to the Nest, starting at 250 Baht per night (shared bathroom outside) and up to 1200 Baht with Private Bathroom 081-9618387

and of course our place Mon and Kurt's Restaurant and Guesthouse, http://www.chiangdao.org/Mon%20and%20Kurt.htm Ph: 084-173-9975, email: monandkurt@yahoo.com, 250 Baht per couple with private bathroom and hot shower.

There are other nice places in Chiang Dao as well, but the above we recommend, because they are nice to us and come and eat at our restaurant frequently.

As for the above....Cees's and our place are for budget travelers. Cees charges 250 Baht for his new bungalows that have a bathroom and hot showers. We charge 190 Baht for the first person and 70 Baht for each additional person in that room.

The next one would be Rainbow Resort, which rents rooms from 250 (room in the house) to 450 Baht (Bamboo bungalow, nice and clean)

Then you have Yangtone Farmstay, which is often full, but has nice bamboo bungalows from about 500 - 700 Baht per night depending on the season and a nice environment with a creek and nice vegetation

For a really nice place, with bungalows, houses etc., starting at 500 Baht per person, try Suan Dao Duan, which has one of the most beautiful Natural Gardens, with fruits growing such as Mangoes, Papayas, yellow lemons, Avacado and lots of different plants and flowers. Also lots of different birds, two horses and quite a few dogs ;-) (friendly dogs). If I had the money, especially with a big group, I would stay there, because the has big houses with nice bathtubs, fire places etc. That rent for 5000 Baht per night for 10 people (500 Baht each), with several bedrooms, nice and cozy for groups.
I also really like the lady (Daeng), who owns it. She has a very good heart.

All the above people I highly recommend.

Mon and I have nothing to gain (except for warm feelings from our competitors) by recommending them. We don't take money or kickbacks, like some places do. We just want to create a network of friendly Restaurant and Resort owners up here in Chiang Dao. Oh yeah, which reminds me, there is also a cool guy named Dameon, he is French and his wife owns Cafe Cafe , if you get thirsty downtown.

So that's the scoop on Chiang Dao for this season. Hope it helps some of you.
