Chiang Dao, is one of the most beautiful valleys, in Northern Thailand.  Many places offer beautiful mountain views and all the comforts of home. There a others, but the cheapest places, that we can recommend, are 300-500 Baht per night.

Accommodation prices in Chiang Dao, range anywhere from 200 Baht to 20,000 Baht per night, but the cheaper places fill up fast, in high season. (November – February)

As for food, there are many noodles stands and Thai restaurants, where you can still eat for 20-40 Baht.  There is even one noodle and Kao Soi Place, across from the temple, around the corner, from the Chiang Dao Inn, where you can get a bowl or noodles or Kao Soi, for 10-20 Baht.  If you want really good food, check out Mon and Kurt’s Restaurant, who re-opened recently, in their new location, right across from the Chiang Dao Inn.  (A stone’s throw from the Tuesday Market)

Here are some options for Chiang Dao:

Mon and Kurt’s Restaurant and Guesthouse have a new guest room upstairs.  Free Wi-Fi access, air conditioning, private bathroom with hot shower (excellent water pressure) and towels.  The room is fully furnished and has a very comfortable, new, queen size bed.   Sheets, pillow cases and towels are changed daily, when the room service does the daily cleaning.  Owners are friendly and easygoing.  Mon and Kurt recently re-opened, in their new location, (directly across Chiang Dao Inn Hotel) this year.  They also serve really good, reasonably priced food.  Languages spoken:  English, Thai, German and some Spanish.  Ph: 084-173-9975 Email: monandkurt@yahoo.com

Nature Home Guesthouse:  A very nice and friendly older couple runs this place.  Three nice freestanding, big cabins with hot showers and private bathroom for 450 baht double plus 100 Baht for extra person or one big cabin with three double beds for 600 Baht per night.  It also has private bathroom with hot shower.  Owners don't speak English, but will call their daughter on the phone to translate.  Phone (English language speaking):  089-955-9074, Thai language:  087-173-8406 or 053-455-771.  Adress:  233 Moo 12 Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province

For a nice place, with bungalows, houses etc., starting at 400 Baht per night, try Chiang Dao Country Home Resort (Suan Dao Duan), which has one of the most beautiful Natural Gardens, with fruits growing such as Mangoes, Papayas, yellow lemons, Avacado and lots of different plants and flowers. Also lots of different birds, two horses and a friendly dog. If I had the money, especially with a big group, I would stay there, because they have big houses with nice bathtubs, fire places etc., that rent for 5000 Baht per night for 10 people (500 Baht each), with several bedrooms, nice and cozy for groups.  She also has a coffee shop there, with good brewed coffee. I also really like the lady (Mae Daeng), who owns it. She has a very good heart.  Some of the smaller bungalows, are a little bit dated, but overall a very nice experience.

A Dutch Man named Cees and his wife Chan, who have clean and fairly new bungalows with hot water showers and bathroom for 300 Baht Fan) or 400 Baht per night with Air Condition, hot shower and TV.  Wireless internet also available: 08-97580450 (Mon and Kurt’s Restaurant and Guesthouse and Cee’s and Chan’s place are our choice, for best all around value, in Chiang Dao)

Malee has nice cabins, near Chiang Dao Cave.  Her Husband, Kurt (not to be confused with Kurt from Mon and Kurt's), is an avid trekker and can tell you all about Doi Luang Chiang Dao and it's many wonders.  They also offer trekking tours081-9618387

As for the above....Mon and Kurt’s and Cees's place are nice places for budget and mid-range travelers. Cees charges 300 Baht for his new bungalows that have a bathroom and hot showers, TV. (400 Air Conditioned). Mon and Kurt’s charge 500 Baht, for their Air Conditioned, big furnished room.  Mon and Kurt’s also have their Restaurant conveniently located downstairs.

Then you have Yangtone Farmstay, which is often full, but has nice bamboo bungalows from about 500 - 700 Baht per night depending on the season and a nice environment with a creek and nice vegetation

MonKiangDao Resort, offers good rooms and  a beautiful view of Doi Luang Chiang Dao, from their property, located on the hill, on the Bypass.

Some new places have opened up, whom we have not had the chance to review yet. They are on the higher end (around 1800 Baht and up).  There is the “Aurora”, on the bypass and quite a few other ones, that have popped up here and there.  From what we hear, they are mostly high end places.

Chiang Dao Nest, charges 650 Baht per night, in low season, for their bungalows and are located next door to Malee's.

Another option, which is totally secluded and in a beautiful jungle area, about 11km off Highway 107, is Tree House Village.  Great place, if you want to get away from it all.  They have several nice, wooden Tree House Bungalows, plus a big wooden building, which as both private rooms and dorm rooms.  250 Baht per night, per person, or you can rent a whole big room or house, as a group.  They do have a kitchen, with a small selection of good food and some beers for sale.  Tel:  053-317090-1.  The road up to Tree House, can be a quite challenging.  They do offer customer pickup and drop-off, for 500 Baht per load (Maximum 5 people per truckload), including return trip.  You can get them to pick you up, at Mon and Kurt's Restaurant, across the Chiang Dao Inn Hotel, or call them yourself, at the above number.

Chiang Kham Luang, which is located on the bypass.  (1900 and up) They have an upscale restaurant, with cloth napkins and nice table clothes, which just opened recently.  The owner of the property, did some beautiful landscaping.

If by some accident, I have missed your business for review, or your prices have changed, please do feel free to call me or email me and we will come out to rate it and to list it for free, if we feel that it will be a nice place to stay for foreign tourists.

A Note to travelers:  If you have a comment, about the places above, or if you would like to see another place included, in the above list, please feel free to email us and we will be happy to check it outJ Email:  monandkurt@yahoo.com.  The above places are by no means a complete list.  We update, as time permits.
